Saturday, March 28, 2009 - Time to say goodbye...

It's hard to believe that a whole week has gone by already. We had such a nice visit and really enjoyed having a chance to hang out with Cindy and Alex. We hated to have to say goodbye at the airport!

The weather was still a bit messy on Friday, so a group of us went bowling during the afternoon; Jen, Ray, Alex, Cindy and I went. While there is no threat of any of us going pro, we did have a good time and lots of laughs.

Thursday was a rainy day, but we had a fun time playing indoors at Frankie's Fun Park. Tim was off of work Thursday, so he was able to join Ron, Ray, Jen, Cindy, Alex, and I. Unfortunately, Stephanie had school and Ang had to work so they weren't able to go with us. Between the group of us, Alex was able to rack up nearly 3000 tickets. He picked out a cool lava lamp and a bunch of other neat stuff. Later on Thursday evening, the whole group enjoyed a tasty dinner at Yamato's. We had a table to ourselves!!

This morning, Ron came in. We all went to the State Museum, which included a new, special American Red Cross exhibit. The exhibit just opened a couple of weeks ago. It will move from city to city, but Columbia is the premier for the exhibit. That is very exciting to Red Crossers (like Ray and myself) in our fair city. The exhibit was great, as were many other of exhibits at the museum. Later, we met Jen and Steph to take in a new exhibit, Turner to Cezanne, at the Columbia Art Museum.

On Tuesday, 3/24/2009, we left in the morning for a trip to Charleston. Our first stop was Mt. Pleasant; we took a boat out to Fort Sumter where the opening shots of the Civil War were fired on April 12, 1861. Once we returned to the dock, we went on a quest for lunch! After lunch, we drove into Charleston for a walk through the Market. Then it was off the the Tanger Outlet Mall for Cindy and I, with the rest of the group heading back to Columbia.

On Monday afternoon, Jen brought over her 2 boys to play with our girls. The dogs and Alex pooped each other out playing fetch.

Yesterday, we all took Maleah to the zoo. She was more interested in the foliage then the animals since she and Jen are frequent visitors to the zoo. It was a beautiful day, so it was fun just to be outdoors. Uncle Ray (and me too) enjoyed spending time with Alex and Cindy. In one of the pictures, Jen and Alex compete for "big" tummies. Jen's is natural, but Alex came in with a good imitation for second place. In the last one, Alex and Maleah share space in the bubble at the aquarium.

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Yesterday afternoon, Cindy and Alex arrived in Columbia - they actually arrived several minutes ahead of schedule which was a vast improvement over their experience last summer. They will be here for a week and I know that we will have a great time. The pictures are from supper last night. The girls were able to join us for a supper of corned beef and cabbage, as well as fun conversation!

Our day at the circus

Although the circus in its entirety was just awesome, our favorite part was the elephants!! Young and old in our group alike enjoyed the more than 2 hour show. It was really fun to experience something like that through the eyes of a 2 year old. Maleah was absolutely mesmerized!!!

Before the show began at 5 pm on Sunday, 3/15, guests were invited to come down and mingle with the performers. During that time, Ray, Jen and Maleah (the 2 year old that Jen looks after) had a chance to watch this elephant as it painted a picture. Later, they held a drawing and one lucky circus goer got to take it home. (Ray did not get selected, unfortunately. He would have loved that for his elephant collection!)

An unexpected (but very appreciated) surprise!

Today, I arrived home from work to an unexpected surprised! While I was at work, a box was delivered to me. When I saw the box on the porch, I immediately started thinking back - was I expecting a delivery? Then I saw that the return address was Cindy's. My first thought was that she was sending some clothes ahead of her visit next Saturday, the 21st. (Which, by the way, we are all looking very forward to.) When I opened the box, though, I knew that there weren't clothes enclosed but a very beautiful fleece blanket carefully packed! Each of my sisters and Mom were involved in the making of the blanket. It's just awesome, guys, and I love it. As you can see, the dogs have given it their seal of approval, as well. Thank you all so much!
